Description
The objective of this presentation will be to share knowledge from women working in the water sector in a panel-style or presentation format. Women of various backgrounds and ages will be selected and will discuss topics related to the challenges and opportunities unique to us. The primary lessons to be taken away for attendees will be: 1.Empowerment for working women. oBeing your authentic self vs. being “one of the boys.” oUnderstanding the nuances of accepting constructive criticism vs. internalizing a sexist comment. oDiscussing styles of leadership. oFeeling compelled to make an inappropriate person feel comfortable. oDispelling imposter syndrome, not limiting yourself. 2.Resources to address conflict. oConsidering that frequently we work with people who are not employed by the same company as we are. oLooking at interpersonal conflict in a more constructive way. oReminding women not to absorb and take responsibility for another person’s issue. 3.Education of the role men play in female employee retention. oEmpowering men to mentor female employees without the perception of an inappropriate relationship. oHelping train men on how to discourage “locker room talk” from male colleagues. 4.Women supporting women oDiscouraging “cattiness” or lack of support through inaction. oBringing awareness that there’s room for more than one at the top (a rising tide lifts all boats).
