Description

The project’s primary focus is looping a new 30” Raw Water Line with a 13 mile existing 24” Raw Water Line to better feed Sevier County with a reliable source of drinking water. The project also has a focus on the redesign of an existing Intake Facility on Douglas Lake in Sevier County. To ensure the success of the redesign, a Bathymetric Survey was imperative. The survey spanned an extensive area of 19 acres, was executed using a Seafloor HydroLite drone boat. This vessel was equipped with a state-of-the-art echosounder, capable of autonomous or manual operation. The inclusion of a GNSS Receiver, offering a impressive accuracy of 1 cm, facilitated precise data collection essential for the project’s success. The mission planner app, running on a base station laptop connected via a radio telemetry link, provided real-time insights into the vehicle’s graphical position and progress against a backdrop of the survey area. The survey, completed within a swift two day timeframe, yielded highly detailed contours, illuminating the slopes of the main lake and the intricate thalweg of canals feeding into it. The resulting data provides a comprehensive understanding of the underwater topography for the effective redesign of the Intake Facility. A noteworthy revelation emerged during the Bathymetric Survey as the contours unveiled an anomaly in the vicinity of the existing pipelines. The survey effectively captured the tops of the pipelines, offering a representation of their trajectory through the surveyed area.
