Personal Anecdote When I first stepped into engineering consulting right out of college, I felt completely overwhelmed; navigating generational differences, figuring out what “professional” looked like, and trying not to feel out of place. Joining my office’s YP group changed everything. It gave me a community, genuine mentors , and the confidence to get more involved. Eventually becoming our YP Chair wasn’t just a leadership step - it was the moment I realized how powerful it can be to create spaces where people feel connected, supported, and seen.
