Description
The City of Franklin, Tennessee, faced an urgent infrastructure challenge when a major sewer trunk line collapsed along the Harpeth River. Garney was engaged to deliver a fast, high quality solution in an environmentally sensitive and logistically constrained corridor. The team removed and replaced approximately 1,710 linear feet of failed 48 inch CCFRPM pipe with a new 48 inch ductile iron pipeline lined with a ceramic filled epoxy coating—providing exceptional long term durability and resilience. The project also required the demolition and reconstruction of five manholes.
To maintain uninterrupted service during construction, Garney deployed a 24/7 sewer bypass system rated at 29 MGD, ensuring seamless flow for all customers impacted by the collapse. Work was performed at depths averaging 24 feet—with the deepest point reaching 28 feet—within extremely limited right of way. These conditions demanded rigorous planning, precise execution, and tight coordination with the City and design partners.
