Description
This presentation highlights how a utility can deploy permanent flow monitoring and District Metered Areas (DMAs) with minimal disruption using hot-tapped, under-pressure installation so monitoring sites can be added without shutting down distribution lines. The session focuses on practical “no-hitch” implementation, selecting and installing meters in a range of pipe sizes and materials, using low-flow accuracy to track minimum night flow, and integrating flow/pressure data into dashboards and GIS so operators can review trends daily and quickly spot anomalies. It also covers staffing and workflow considerations needed to keep the program running long-term and scalable, from a single test DMA to full system buildout, while supporting faster leak isolation and more efficient field response.
