Water Loss/Non-Revenue Water
Description
Nashville Metropolitan Water Services (MWS), in collaboration with Xylem, is advancing the use of real-time digital twins to improve operational awareness and efficiency across its drinking water distribution network. Building on existing real-time modeling, SCADA, and other data integrations, the project introduces live hydraulic head loss analytics as a novel diagnostic capability. By calculating and visualizing measured versus modeled head and head error trends in real-time, the tool provides engineers and operators with insights into leaks, closed valves, undersized pipes, and other unexpected network behaviors. These capabilities are delivered through interactive dashboards that allow users to trend hydraulic head and head loss across time and space, compare measured and modeled conditions, and identify anomalies with unprecedented clarity. The integration of these diagnostics into MWS’s digital twin supports more proactive troubleshooting, reduces the time required to locate issues, and lays the groundwork for predictive insights. This collaboration between Xylem and MWS demonstrates how utilities can move beyond traditional model outputs to incorporate advanced analytics into day-to-day operations. The resulting framework is scalable, user-driven, and replicable, offering a path for utilities to accelerate their digital transformation while improving system resilience and customer service.
