Description
Water Reclamation facilities face increasing challenges related to work force shortages, aging infrastructure, and the need for specialized technical skills. Hiring and training Operational and Maintenance personnel through a well-defined Apprenticeship Program offers significant benefits by supporting workforce development while ensuring reliable and efficient plant operation. Many municipalities have structured Apprenticeship programs that attach hours for specific hands-on tasks and training requirements. Apprenticeship programs provide structured, hands-on training that allow apprentices to gain practical experience in operation, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and preventative maintenance activities under the supervision of skilled professionals. This approach promotes effective knowledge transfer, preserves expertise, and supports succession planning as experienced staff retire.
Additionally, apprenticeships improve long term retention, reduce long term recruitment and training costs and improve employee morale. By career pathways and investing in apprenticeships water reclamation facilities strengthen and improve maintenance performance and ensure the long-term sustainability of critical infrastructure.
This presentation will provide information on both operation and maintenance programs but mostly on the importance of Maintenance Apprenticeship programs. This presentation will provide information on different municipality Apprenticeship Programs and a discussion of a National Apprenticeship Program.
