PFAS Destruction in Reverse Osmosis Concentrate Using UV-Advanced Reduction Processes

Description
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) can be effectively removed using technologies such as reverse osmosis. The treatment or disposal of concentrated PFAS in reverse osmosis concentrate remains a challenge. This paper presentation explores the destruction of PFAS in reverse osmosis concentration using a novel technology called ultraviolet advanced reduction processes (UV-ARP). We investigate the destruction of both long-chain and short-chain PFAS under several UV-ARP treatment conditions. UV-ARP treatment effectiveness of PFAS in reverse osmosis concentrate is then compared to the UV-ARP treatment of PFAS in other source water conditions. Lastly, recommended treatment conditions need to optimize PFAS destruction will be discussed.
