Description
In the past three years, the EPA has finalized two major revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule: the 2021 Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), and the 2024 Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI). The Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) will discuss DOW’s assistance to water systems in complying with LCRR’s initial compliance requirement – the initial service line inventory – and provide updates to how Kentucky water systems complied with this requirement and how we will be moving forward with implementation work for the requirements of the LCRI. In partnership with utilities and water sector partners, DOW has collaborated with the Lead in Drinking Water Workgroup to develop a template for the inventory, data management system, guidance documents, and trainings to assist water systems with these rule revisions. The utilities and partners include a diverse group of stakeholders representing large and small water systems, non-profit associations, trade organizations, public health, and education. Together, we are creating many different resources to meet the rule requirements. DOW will discuss this process, including complications and achievements along the way.
