Drinking Water Quality
Description

Since 2021, there have been four new Safe Drinking Water Act revisions. In many ways, these have been among the most complex and challenging changes to the SDWA in it’s 50-year history. They include two major revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule, a new rule to monitor and control per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and changes to the Consumer Confidence Report Rule. In addition, two more rules are expected within the next 2-3 years. Division of Water staff will discuss regulatory updates, solutions, and challenges that they and drinking water systems have faced in this new era of regulatory requirements. We will highlight positive impacts to drinking water systems and drinking water quality, along with some of the difficulties that water systems have overcome and are yet to face.
